Blender 2.8

Blender is an amazing 3D Modelling and Animation software that is available for free to download and use on Windows/MacOS/Linux devices.

For a program that is available for free, it has the same capabilities as its more recognized, industry-grade counterpart, Autodesk Maya.

Blender also comes with a built-in game engine which we use for our 3D Game Design camp.

Kdenlive is a free, open-source, and cross-platform video editing software that can be used on Windows, MacOS, and Linux devices.

Byte Camp Blender Setup

​This is the default set up for Byte Camp itself so for students who are more used to our summer camp set up than the default version, feel free to download and save this file.

To set it as your default, open the save file, go to File > Save Startup File. Now every time you open up Blender, it will be that default set up. Happy Blendering!

Here you will find an assortment of tutorials and guides on how to model and animate using Blender, courtesy of CGBoorman.

Basic introduction into Blender and how to navigate around it.

If you prefer to have a different set up than the Byte Camp layout, this tutorial will show you how to arrange windows and to save your layout as your default. You will also learn how to reconfigure keys to your needs, primarily in this lesson you will switch from the number pad to the number row. 

You will learn how to add in a variety of objects and learn how to modify their shapes by learning how to make a snowman.

Learn the most efficient ways to save your files and to make sure you never lose your projects! 

You will learn a more indepth version of how to modify a basic shape into something even more complex. In this lesson, you will be using a cube and modifying it to turn it into Herald the Dinosaur. That's right, a dinosaur from a cube!

In this lesson, CGBoorman demonstrates how to create organic characters using a method called 'Box Modelling'.Skills learned and tools used can be applied to any character you can imagine modelling.

In this lesson, you will be introduced to Modifiers, specifically the Mirror and Subsurf as they would be the most useful and are the most commonly used.

In this lesson you will turn the drab grays and whites you have been defaulted with to beautiful colors!
